Adenocarcinoma
Colon Cancer
Adenocarcinoma colon
cancer is a kind of colon cancer and it usually come up
from the epithelium lining inside the large intestine
Although adenocarcinoma
colon cancer is not uncommon, it is rarely found in
youngsters. With age, the chances of a person suffering from
adenocarcinoma colon
cancer increases.
The people who suffer the
highest risks are females aged over 50. Although there is no
particular region where adenocarcinoma colon c is more
frequent, however places with low fiber diet are the ones who
are usually affected so basically adenocarcinoma colon cancer is
relatively uncommon in Europe, USA and Australia.
People
who are at high risk from adenocarcinoma colon cancer
are those which have hereditary conditions like adenomatous
polyposis and the like. Hereditary conditions make it some what
common to suffer from this type of cancer even in teenagers. As
far as hereditary is concerned, first degree relatives have the
largest impact. However there are specific types of polyps too
which have the potential to turn to malignancy. In fact even
people suffering from obesity are at a risk of suffering from
adenocarcinoma .
Adenocarcinoma colon
cancer spreads by invading the wall of the bowel. Crossing
the muscular layer within the wall of the bowel, it enters the
lymphatic vessels and then spreads to local as well as regional
lymph nodes. It can also spread to the liver through the
bloodstream. Since the cancer spreads via blood, other human
organs can be affected in the process too. These organs are the
lungs, bones, and sometimes even the brain.
If an unfortunate event
happens due to which an excessive number of tumor cells pass
through the wall of the bowel, these tumor cells can be found
floating as a small fluid inside the abdomen and can further
seed the bowel. Adenocarcinoma colon cancer
produces small nodules within the abdomen which are responsible
for irritating the tissues and causing the production of huge
amounts of fluid.
The one effective treatment
which exists for adenocarcinoma colon cancer is the
surgery of the colon. For tumours which are yet to reach the
muscular layer within the bowel wall, surgery will be curative
in more than 90% of cases. Adenocarcinoma colon surgery is
carried out primarily to remove the primary tumor rather than
those which have spread throughout the body.
The standard adjuvant therapy
for resected adenocarcino
colon c is 5-FU and calcium folinate which is given for a
period of six months. Standard therapy for metastic colon
cancer is however irinotecan, 5-FU and leucovorin. However all
treatment of adenocarcinoma colon are administered for several
weeks through IV injections.
